The Supermen of America
FROM THE WILLIAM E. BLAKE COLLECTION
I joined the Supermen of America club in 1940 as a result of reading about it in Superman comic books.  I was the only one in my neighborhood who joined, as far as I know and can remember.  Although all the kids bought and read Superman and Batman - and traded them with each other - I don't recall talking to others about going in with me.  (You would certainly think it would have been more fun if a bunch of us joined together.  But, as far as I can recall, I was the only one who did.)

While there were no subsequent materials mailed out after the initial kit, there were materials in the comic books themselves that called upon the use of the decoder to figure out the message.
