Taking Time: A Tale of the Very New Superboy!
Here are your comments about Samuel Hawkins' first Superboy story, TAKING TIME: A TALE OF THE VERY NEW SUPERBOY !

There are also more comments about his other stories!

This August I will be 54 years old, I have been a fan for over 45 years.  Not a fanatic or an avid collector, but a fan none the less.

This story has caught up with me, taken Superboy out from from the comic books and added him to the realms of good literature.  The ideal of a superman, particularly as he developed in the 50s, 60s and 70s, of honesty, morality and justice has always very strongly appealed to me.  This was very strongly expressed in this story.  The "fame" and "Glory" often associated with super-heroes is a minor aspect of our Kryptonian adopted son's psyche and one he has never encouraged.

I really enjoyed the "makeover" and just see it as filling in all the gaps that my young imagination did when I started following his exploits so many years ago!  Well done!

This was an excellent piece of writing!  It held my attention through ever chapter.  Not just because I am a superman fan - I really mean it. This author should write much more.  I know I would buy any novel or article that he wrote.

This was intelligent, grabbed and held my attention... it had all the makings of a great story line, and it kept me reading till the very end to find out what would happen as well as sad when it was finished.  Do write more.  Excellent.

Wow!  A good old Superboy story.  I used to think "they don't write them like that anymore."  I see I was wrong.  Thanks!

I love this story, it has the feel of the Superboy comics I used to read in the 60s when I was a kid.

Excellent!  Bravo!

The kind of story that fleshes out a character.  Even if it wasn't about my most favorite fictional character, I would recommend it as good short story.  Thanks for writing it.

Thank you for the trip back into my childhood.  It was a perfect fit with the memories of what I read in D.C. Comics when I was a boy in the early 70s.

Please continue.

Sorry to be the one to break this to you, but Chapter Nine was the end of Taking Time!

We have been getting a lot of requests to keep going with it, but the writer, Sam Hawkins, hasn't made up his mind as to whether he'll write any more stories or not.  If you liked this one, email him and maybe we can convince him to write another one!

Being a reader since the late 50's, this brings a lot of feelings with it. There is so much I want to say... about how this story works so well even with the new continuity of hyper-time and the past versions established.

The recent Doomsday Wars story brought out something overlooked by many writers - why Clark can give so much. It's because in that "timeline", he felt guilty of not doing enough to prevent the family herd from dying and thereby losing the farm.... only to find everyone in town turned around and helped his family. That kind of feeling isn't easily buried.

With this newest version of the youngster from another planet, we see the real ground work that made so much of the legend survive and grow over all these years.

The comics of the fifties were more of short stories collected in one book - fun, but leaving one wanting so much more that could be done. It's great seeing how maturity has added so much more to who the characters are and how they are portrayed. Many, many thanks for the warmth returned.

- David Lomazoff (unfortunately, limited to just being on one Earth), December 7, 1999

Great story. I'm glad to see that Superboy lives again - if only in these stories.  It's ironic DC killed of Superboy when the Adventures of Superboy TV series was the highest rated Superman series done.

Please do more Superboy and Superman stories.  There is far too little Superman fanfiction on the net!

Thank you,

- Doug, December 1, 1999

Are you kidding?  Please tell me you won't stop writing these!  I mean, sure, the weekly books are great just now, but your stories have a special quality, I don't know, maybe it's because you're also a fan and it shows.  The love for the character is right there.  Please, keep coming up with these stories, I don't know how we've done without them this long.

Whilst growing up with the Silver Age Superboy/Superman, I must admit as I now approach 40 that I prefer the post-crisis Superman, as I find that the current mythos is more consistent and "believable"...

However that being said, I think in this story you have made the Superboy of old a much more believable character and have done much for his mythos. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and hope it won't be the last :) Great Work!

I have just finished reading Chapter 9: "Up From the Skies!".  Please tell Sam Hawkins not to stop writing now!  Everything was just really beginning to get on a roll!

I know the old saying about "Leave 'em wantin' more. . .", but really!  Don't you think it's a bit cruel to leave his readers drooling?

Sam Hawkins seems to have the kind of insight that more writers need when it comes to understanding and imagining how the mind of a teenager might work when finally confronted by the effects of superpowers on the rest of the world and his friends!

Hey, DC folks, don't let this writer get away!
