Superman?"
was originally published as

1976.

In 1983 it was re-printed in The Great Superman Comic Book
Collection. Unlike most comic books of the time, this reprint
collection was a deluxe hard-cover volume with high quality paper and
featured a beautifully printed reproduction of the story.

Work on The Special Edition began with this book.
Each page of the story
was scanned at 300 dpi. Using Adobe Photoshop,
we would then brighten the colors, darken the line work, and
for each page, we would
- Add new backgrounds (note the blue sky and clouds, and occasional
"comic book" fill patterns)
- Add lighting effects (airbrushed shadows, reflections, and shading)
- Recolor metal objects to look metallic
- Recolor water to look like water
- Additional re-coloring where neccesary
- Enhance existing special FX
- Add semi-transparent glass effects to glasses, windows, and windshields
- Add new written sound effects and "thought" effects
